Fresh Dust Trio consists of some of the most prominent protagonists of new jazz scenes from Slovenia and Serbia. The band was established in 2018 by Jaka Berger with his regular collaborators, the Serbian pianist Marina Džukljev and the guitarist (acoustic this time) Samo Šalamon, already quite known in Cerkno. The trio released their debut album Hilarious Experts (FMR, 2019), which was named record of the year by the Slovenian Centralala portal. The American magazine Downtown Music Gallery concluded the album review using the word “Extraordinary!” For this concert, the German double bassist Felix Henkelhausen will join the trio. He will also play on the trio’s second album, which will be recorded just before the performance at our festival. Slovenian premiere.
The pianist Marina Džukljev is considered one of the most active Serbian musicians in contemporary classical music, improvisation and experimental music. She presented herself at our festival in 2017 as the co-founder of the Serbian-Croatian-Slovenian collective Šalter Ensemble. Jaka Berger – Brgs, who wrote three of the four tracks from the Hilarious Experts debut, is one of Slovenian most active drummers and percussionists. Likewise the Serbian pianist, he also plays on the prepared drum set. He is a member of many bands, for instance in the dub duo Darla Smoking. The guitarist Samo Šalamon has been named “one of the most talented young guitarists and composers on the jazz scene” by the Allmusic.com portal. He has published more than 30 albums and collaborated with famous names (John Scofield, Tim Berne, Michel Godard…). In this trio he plays acoustic guitars with 6 and 12 strings. German double bassist Felix Henkelhausen started playing piano and cello as a child, but then turned to double bass, which he began to study when he was 16 years old. Despite his youth (b. 1995), he has already played with a number of famous jazz musicians such as Nate Wooley, Tobias Delius, Lotte Anker, Jim Black or Gebhard Ullmann. According to Luka Zagoričnik (the Centralala portal), the album Hilarious Experts is “a wonderful mix of rapidly broken rhythms, subtle sounds and decompositions of melodies, and condensed energetic twists.”
