At this year’s Jazz Cerkno festival, we held a new residency for musicians, which we are now rounding off with a discography release. We have published the album Jezen času kamna, the debut of the band Bop en Bras, the first participants of the residency program Jazz incubator. The residency is intended for Slovenian musicians younger than 35 who work in the field of jazz and improvised music. Selected musicians or bands realize their project as part of the residency and present it for the first time at the festival and then publish it on an album. The band Bop en Bras works under the leadership of Urban Kušar, a drummer and percussionist of the younger generation who studied at Zlatko Kaučič’s school. He gained experience in improvisation, jazz and rock, and worked with various bands of Italian double bassist Giovanni Maier and in bands such as CUT Trio, Kombo B, Nesesari Kakalulu, Acamar Trio (and Quartet), and Koromač.

In his new international project Bob en Bras, Kušar gathered musicians of the younger generation, whose expression lies at the intersection of new jazz and ethnic music with many musical and geographical influences. After a several-day residency in Cerkno, during which the musicians prepared compositions for the presentation concert, they performed a concert at the Cerkno music school on May 19. Four recordings from this performance were included on the album, and four more tracks were recorded at the additional studio recording in the Štala club in Lokavec. On studio recording Jure Boršič replaced saxophonist Andrej Thompson. The latter is also the author of one composition, while all the others, with the exception of the cover of a composition by the famous pianist Mal Waldron, were written by Urban Kušar. The album was released on CD and digital streaming platforms.
