This year’s discussion focuses on the versatility of musicians. Many artists today take on multiple roles: alongside playing music, they are also involved in various aspects of music creation, including those aimed at preserving and developing the scene itself. Some move from rehearsals and concerts to composing, arranging and seeking out collaborators, while others take on roles such as managers, agents, organizers, label owners or venue hosts. Many also expand their practice through teaching or by initiating new projects and collaborations, sometimes beyond the field of music. The discussion will explore what motivates musicians to engage with other spheres of art, why they take on roles in publishing or managing a music scene, and how important self-organization is for creating and performing. The discussion will feature pianist and composer Kaja Draksler, (double) bassist Jošt Drašler, and drummer and percussionist Gal Furlan.
