This Keltika festival event will be aimed at the youngest – children from the age of 3. We will present the musical puppet show Pojte, pojte drobne ptice (Sing, Sing, You Little Birds), based on the book of the same name, a collection of Slovenian folk songs selected by Kristina Brenkova and illustrated by Marlenka Stupica. The songs were adapted for stage by the creators of the show, and folk miniatures were combined into stories of material insatiability and arrogance. The main character is the folk musician Mrakovček Premrakovček, who finds himself in a big trouble when he steals the feathers of the most beautiful and most powerful bird in the world, Šaraptica. The latter takes revenge by locking his songbirds in a cage and discarding the key … The folk musician then embarks on a magical journey through children’s folk songs, in which many heroes come to life to help him find the key. Although the songs depict a time as it once was and therefore many children no longer know it today, the story of the chained birds and the effort to release them tries to teach children about something that still leads to the real key today: perseverance. In the play we follow a lively puppet show, colourful costumes and live music by multi-instrumentalist Andrej Fon (well-known from many ethno and jazz ensembles), who plays pipes, jew’s harp, mandolin, kalimba, horn and many innovative flutes.
The performance is part of the accompanying program of the 26th Keltika festival.
