The musical composition Triakonta written by composer Žiga Stanič is marking the anniversary of the discovery of the sixty thousand year old flute from Divje babe, which is considered the oldest musical instrument in the world. The composition was premiered last summer in Cerkno as part of the Oldest Flute project produced by Zavod Jazz Cerkno, which was included in the official programme of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia. Inspired by a series of questions about the function of music in the past and today, Stanič composed Triakonta using a polystylistic approach, both thematically and acoustically. In his words, the composition is modern in some of its fissures, or perhaps at the same time primordial. The Jazz Punt Big Band, together with the soloist Boštjan Gombač, one of the few musicians in Slovenia who specialize in playing the Neanderthal flute, will unite all time distances into one point and revive a long-forgotten mystical experience.

In its 20 years the Tolmin Jazz Punt Big Band has performed over 200 concerts in Slovenia and abroad. At international big band competitions in Hungary (2013) and the Czech Republic (2015), the group won the gold plaque and achieved top marks. The band also performed at the famous Nišville Jazz Festival in Serbia and at the Šiauliai Big Band Festival in Lithuania. Boštjan Gombač, one of Slovenia’s most versatile musicians (a member of Katalena and many other projects), developed a passion for instruments from around the world. In recent years the master of wind and many other instruments has been devoting himself to playing the reconstruction of the Neanderthal flute, from which he elicits incredibly rich and unusual sounds.

The concert is a co-production with the Kulturni dom Nova Gorica.
