This year’s residency – where young musicians prepare a project, premiere it at the festival, and later release it as an album – features the quartet led by trumpeter Maj Kavšek. Despite his youth (born in 2000), Kavšek has already performed at several well-known festivals, including the Jazz Festival Ljubljana, Zvončki in trobentice, Fête de la Musique Berlin, and Skopje Jazz Festival. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Nate Wooley, Chris Pitsiokos, Philipp Gropper, Bram De Looze and Felix Henkelhausen. In Cerkno, he will perform with the Slovenian-German Maj Kavšek Kvartet, presenting his conceptual project L.O.S.T. – a collection of his compositions, through which the musicians explore the limits of perceiving everyday environmental sounds and subtle deviations within a given sonic texture. L.O.S.T. invites listeners to reflect on how we perceive the world around us, how information shapes our sense of orientation within society, and how sound can expand our consciousness and offer moments of complete sonic connection.
