After the diverse series of concerts at the summer Keltika, we are starting its autumn part with a double jazz concert. We will hear a German and a Slovenian band playing a modern version of jazz in combination with other genres and influences, from rock and punk to funk all the way to free jazz and New Orleans tradition. Insomnia Brass Band is truly a miniature big band, because despite the fact that it is a trio, it is distinguished by the exquisite elements of large orchestras: lively rhythms, enticing themes and suggestive solos. The trio stretch their original tunes with a mixture of improvisation and body-moving funk. On the current tour the trio presents their fresh third album Crooked Alligator (Tiger Moon Records). Insomnia Brass Band won the German Jazz Prize for the band of the year in 2023. Gal Furlan Quartet consists of musicians from the Ajdovščina and Gorica area, well-known from many jazz and other bands. They got together at the initiative of drummer Gal Furlan, also the author of the compositions. The quartet plays jazz mixed with other genres from African styles to funky to rock, and often engages in lively freestyle improvisation. They will present the second album Animal Kingdom (Klopotec), which will be released on October 10. On it, guitarist Anton Lorenzutti, who played on the debut album Almost Blues (Klopotec, 2022), was replaced by Aleš Valentinčič – Brdonch.
