Boštjan Gombač is known as a musician who masters the largest number of musical instruments in Slovenia. Among other things, he is a master of playing the reconstruction of a Neanderthal flute and a promoter of this 60,000-year-old musical instrument, which was found in Divje babe near Cerkno. In his new project TIBIA SONORA (“sounding shinbone”), he will connect the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the oldest musical instrument in the world with the 30th anniversary of the Jazz Cerkno festival. In the trio’s music, the sounds of the flute intertwine in complex rhythms with the sounds of piano, synthesizers and electronics. On piano is Sašo Vollmaier, known for his conceptual solo recitals (Vollmaier – Kind of Laibach, Vollmaier: Ligeti) and as a composer for dance and theater. Bojan Krhlanko, drummer and permanent member of the band Laibach since 2017, collaborates with numerous musicians across pop, rock and jazz (Litošt, Boštjan Simon: There Be Monsters, Kukushai). All trio members will also play electronic instruments. The concert is dedicated to Janez Dirjec, the discoverer of the Neanderthal flute, and will feature compositions written specifically for this project. In addition to the flute, Gombač will also play various other wind instruments and sound objects.

The concert is part of the project The Oldest Flute, which is included in the official programme of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia.
