After Keltika concert series, our program continues in the cinema. In co-production with Idrija City Library, we are organizing for the fifth year in a row a series of movies about music called Paglej! This year, we will do the screening of four documentaries: about music legends (Charles Lloyd and Ennio Morricone), renowned Blue Note label and the forgotten Harlem festival.
We will start the series on November 10 with the documentary film Summer of Soul. The story is about the festival in Harlem in 1969. The footage from the festival was lying around in the archive and the knowledge about the event fell into oblivion. The film won, among others, an Oscar and a Grammy for the best documentary. Two weeks later, on November 24, we will show the documentary Blue Note: Beyond the Notes, which reveals the story of one of the most famous jazz labels. Jazz greats such as Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, John Coltrane, Art Blakey or Miles Davis had been recording for the label.
In the second part of the series we will present two documentaries about two musical giants. On December 1 Love Longing Loss: At Home with Charles Lloyd During a Year of the Plague. The intimate portrait of the famous saxophonist and flutist, directed by his wife Dorothy Darr, was created during the epidemic. In the movie we follow Lloyd’s solo performances and his reflections on music, solitude, resistance, social injustice… The last movie in this year’s series is Ennio (December 8), a portrait of the famous film music composer Ennio Morricone, best known for his music for Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns. The film was directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, who collaborated with the maestro on his film Cinema Paradiso (1988) and then on twelve more of his films.
All screenings are admission free and will take place at the Filmsko gledališče Idrija at 19:00.
