Samo Kutin (SI) – hurdy gurdy

This year’s Jazz Hike – a guided walk that connects music with the cultural and natural heritage of the Cerkno region – leads to the village of Zakriž, where Samo Kutin will perform on the medieval hurdy-gurdy. Kutin, best known as a member of the bands Širom and Bakalina Velika, is a multi-instrumentalist known for his use of unconventional and handmade instruments. He expands the sound of the hurdy-gurdy with resonators that he developed himself, and often plays in a natural environment, exploring the possibilities of collaboration with different forms of life. The picturesque village of Zakriž lies above Cerkno on the site of a previous large landslide, nestled among surrounding hills. Above the village are well-preserved underground Italian military forts, built before World War II as part of the Alpine Wall defense system. The hike to the destination takes a good hour. The trail mostly follows a dirt road, with an uphill section at the beginning. We recommend wearing hiking shoes and bringing a flashlight, as well as food and drinks. After the concert, we will return to Cerkno on foot.

In cooperation with Visit Cerkno.
