At the first concert of the 31st Keltika series, we will listen to the American singer-songwriter Chris Eckman, who lives in Slovenia, accompanied by his regular Slovenian collaborators. Eckman is considered one of the most prominent performers of Americana, a recognizable blend of folk, rock, blues and other genres, which he already cultivated in his own way in the band The Walkabouts. Although he recorded more intimate, singer-songwriter albums with poetic lyrics in the duo with Carla Torgerson during the operation of The Walkabouts (1984–2015), he has completely dedicated himself to such expression on the albums that he has been signing with his own name for more than a quarter of a century. However, these albums are not solo works, as Eckman is usually accompanied by a colorful group of respected Slovenian and international musicians, known from folk and rock projects. Following the album Where the Spirit Rests (2021; German Critics’ Award), he released the well-received The Land We Knew the Best in 2025, which the British monthly magazine Uncut in February declared as the album of the month and at the end of the year ranked it 26th on its list of 80 best albums of 2025.
